For all the hue and cry people made about this movie what I am surprised about (while there may be some cuts) about these people; especially the Rajput clan is what did they see and infer to protest in the first place!! Sanjay Leela Bhansali (SLB) should be more careful and release the movie only to the censor board who are the authorities representing the Film fraternity and decide on what to show and also on the authenticity of the representation.
Anyway I am happy people have gotten over it and it’s there in the theatres for citizens of India to feel proud and witness therefore the “History”. SLB through this movie has showcased how cruel and ruthless the ruler of Khalji dynasty was. Ranveer Singh who has played the role of Alauddin Khilji is haunting, looks evil and has done a marvelous negative role. Alauddin Khilji had a dream that one day he will see the Khalji Dynasty rule the entire world. (we can see the same hunger in the actor Ranveer Singh, he is there to prove a point rule the world of Bollywood! But sometimes he over does it and he has to careful about it!!). In this greed he kills his own uncle and father-in-law to sit on the throne. He was a selfish leader and had the technique and cunningness to bring all his people together and fight to accomplish his own dreams. Shahid Kapoor who has played the role of King of Mewad Maharawal Ratan Singh has also done full justice to the role. The men of Bollywood are looking in great shape and have flaunted their 6 pack abs with classiness and elegance.
But as the title suggests this movie is about “Rani Padmaavati” played beautifully by Deepika Padukone in the film who looks ravishing; hard to believe how she carried gracefully those tons of jewellery and traditional dresses and at the same time deliver and dance to perfection. Rani Padmaavati was an amalgamation of beauty and brains. Through this movie SLB has showcased how the Rajputs followed fair war tactics and never attacked an enemy who was his guest and however cruel or ruthless the enemy may be. Rajputs respected women and therefore when Khilji openly demanded to see his wife; Maharawal Ratan Singh lost his cool and openly invited him for a war. He could have chopped his head then and there but again Rajputs institution, ethics and principles are incredibly portrayed. Khilji who had won many battles accepted it and decided to fight this battle for “LOVE”. Khilji again through his crooked, dishonest and cruel strategy imprisons the King and takes him to Delhi with a condition that he would be released only if Rani Padmaavati herself comes to see him in Delhi. Rani Padmaavati however through her determination and valor visits Alauddin Khilji laying down certain conditions and frees her love and husband from their clutches without showing him his face. Khilji feeling deprived and cheated on love punishes his own wife for supporting Rani Padmaavati and decides to kill Maharawal Ratan Singh.
Rani Padmaavati shows that courage is not only in the blood and swords of the Rajput men but also in the bangles and nerve of Rajput women. Hearing the news of the death of the King, Rani Padmaavati decides to commit “Jauhar” i.e self-immolation by jumping on fire with the strength of character that she will never fulfill Khilji’s dream of seeing her.
Chinta ko talwar ki nok pe rakhe Woh Rajput..! Ret ki naav leke samdar se sart lagaye Woh Rajput..! Aur jiska sar katein Phir bhi dhad dusman se ladta rahe Wo Rajput..!
For people interested in knowing about the end of Khilji; during the last years of his life, Alauddin suffered from an illness, and relied on Malik Kafur to handle the administration. He finally died in 1316.
“Sanjay Leela Bhansali” as rhythmic and formative his name sounds equally melodious and creative are his movies. For all the nervousness and anxiety that was created at the time of release of this movie, me too like any other worried citizen had my apprehensions and made it late to the theatres. But I must say that I am happy I did so and witnessed the marvel and spirit of history to my son too.
Jai Bhavani!!
